ORLANDO’S DWIGHT HOWARD NAMED NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard today was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Nov. 12 through Sunday, Nov. 18.

Howard’s 23.3 points and Eastern Conference-best 13.3 rebounds helped Orlando to a 4-0 week, including a 104-102 win over previously undefeated Boston on Sunday. Howard scored a career-high tying 35 points on Nov. 14 at Cleveland and became the youngest player (21 years, 343 days) in NBA history to amass 3,000 career rebounds on Nov. 16 at New Jersey.

Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

  • Nov. 13 vs. Seattle: Tallied 13 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a 103-76 win over the SuperSonics.
  • Nov. 14 @ Cleveland: Poured in 35 points to go along with 16 rebounds, four blocks and two assists in a 117-116 overtime win over the Cavaliers.
  • Nov. 16 @ New Jersey: Collected 21 points, 19 rebounds and one block in a 95-70 win over the Nets.
  • Nov. 18 vs. Boston: Notched 24 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a 104-102 win over the Celtics.

    Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Cleveland’s LeBron James, Dallas’ Josh Howard, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony, Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut, New Orleans’ Chris Paul and David West and Washington’s Caron Butler.
